Congratulations to the SMS students who were nominated for the 1st quarter Breakfast of Champions. Unfortunately, we aren't able to hold our usual breakfast to honor them, but teachers still wanted to take the time to recognize students for going above and beyond.

SMS celebrated our fall sports athletes this morning my live streaming our recognition program to the rest of the building via Zoom. These coaches and athletes showed great determination to compete in spite of the obstacles, and we couldn't be more proud of our Redskins. Pictured are Joe Marks Award Recipients (L to R): Brooklyn Booker - Girls Cross Country, Gareth Coffer - Baseball, Addison Minor and Tabatha Webb - Softball. Not pictured: Curtis Kite - Boys Cross Country.

Great to live in a country that is guarded by heroes.
Veteran’s Day.

Students in 6th grade STEM class were given a Pumpkin Stand Challenge this week. They had to “buy” materials to create their stand. The pumpkin patch needed the tallest stand at the lowest costs. They had to strategize what materials they were willing to spend money on to get the height that they needed. Then, we figured out who won by calculating the unit rate of cost per centimeters. Our remote learner was even able to join in on the fun from home! Every group’s stand was able to hold the pumpkin. The group in the top left won with the lowest unit rate - they succeeded by getting most of their height with only one piece of card stock! #onetribe

Students in 6th grade math used candy to practice their new skills. They each got their own mini bag of m&m's and calculated the fraction, decimal and percent of each color in their bag.
