Students in 5th and 6th grade science reviewed for their final test of the semester by playing a digital escape room! Working together with teams, students solved a series of puzzles to unlock codes. All puzzles were tied to the material they would be testing on tomorrow! Students competed with other groups to see who could escape fastest - but were given 30 minutes to complete the task! Like real life escape rooms, students were given 3 hints but if they had to use a hint, they had a one minute penalty added to their final time! We had a lot of fun!

Students in 5th grade science are using a resource called Padlet to brainstorm ways they can help protect Earth’s Natural Resources (as that’s what they are studying in science right now). We’d like to hear from our community and let you experience Padlet (a message board for sharing ideas). What do you do in your home or around our community to help protect Earth’s Natural Resources. Use the following link to get involved in our discussion: https://padlet.com/heddinsm/o2b98hhtyhn9

6th grade STEM class students have been working with Ozobots. These are robots that carry out commands based on color coded “playgrounds”. Students created their own playgrounds yesterday getting used to working with the Ozobot. Today students had a “bowling” challenge. To code a route where ozobot would knock down six “pins” along the way! They are doing a great job and learning a lot! #onetribe

Students in 6th grade math worked on calculating unit prices of various items in a grocery store ad. It was an eye opener for some of them to see the cost of items, and they enjoyed finding the better buy between comparable items.

Students in 5th Grade Science kicked off their Earth Science unit today with making models of the Earth. Students had 20 minutes and a limited number of supplies to make the best visual representation of the Earth as they know it! They did a great job!

5th graders learned all about grain bin safety at Ag Safety Day today. They used a simulator to see how much weight they could pull up out of a bin. They were pretty strong!

Shout out to these fine young ladies who stayed behind to pick up trash after middle school lunch in the Commons. Nobody asked them to do it, but they did it anyway. #OneTribe

Students in Mrs. Standerfer's class worked on a Civil War photo analysis using the Library of Congress. Students analyzed the "Dictator" photo as a class, then had the opportunity to find a photo, create questions for their photo and then finished the activity by analyzing another groups photo.

Students at Sullivan Middle School spent the morning giving back to the community by participating in a school-wide service project. Students were split into groups performing tasks around the community. Students painted pumpkins for Oktoberfest, helped prepare the square for Oktoberfest, volunteered at local nursing homes, and assisted the Corps of Engineers with shoreline clean-up and preparation of handicap deer blinds for hunting season. We are proud of our students for their willingness to step up and help make Sullivan a great place to live. We are #OneTribe!
