Our very own Ally Elzy was one of Illinois' top 10 essay winners for the NPR Illinois essay contest, 'This I Believe.' For the contest, students chose a personal belief and wrote a 350-500 word reflection on that belief. She was invited to Springfield to read her essay for the Rotary Club, record her essay to be aired on NPR, and she also received a $100 scholarship. Over the last couple months, Sullivan High School has installed new water fountains in several locations. Many of these are "bottle fill stations". Additionally, students are allowed to begin carrying water bottles to class, as long as the bottle is clear (not tinted). To give students an option for an acceptable water bottle, the high school office is selling water bottles for $5. Pick yours up today!

NEHS went on their third annual Barnes and Noble trip today where they purchased 107 library books and 23 personal books. They focused on expanding choices for the newly-added 5th grade, increasing non-fiction books, and finding books that interested them personally. Not only did students work hard researching book choices ahead of time, they worked diligently upon return to get the books ready for check out as soon as possible. Each student has a book that is dedicated to them with a sticker so future readers know they picked the book for this trip.
