Congratulations Ethan Schmohe! This weekend Sullivan Blue Dolphin and Sullivan High School freshman Ethan Schmohe is heading to St John, Indiana, to compete in the Age Group State Championship meet. For four days he will compete against some of the best in Illinois. He will be swimming in eight qualified events. Thursday - 100 free and 100 back, Friday - 200 back, Saturday - 200 free, 100 fly and 400 IM, Sunday - 50 free and 200 IM. No other swimmer has qualified in the last 17 years for a full boat of events at a state meet. The closest swimmer was in 2012 with 6 events. So he just did a new amazing feat for the team! Think he is done - not Ethan. He broke 3 team records this weekend. In the 200 freestyle, he broke his own record of 1:57.55 with a new record of 1:52.23. In the 200 IM, the prior record was 2:08.92 held by Charlie Goss but it is now 2:07.74 , and in the 100 Freestyle, he broke Trenton Guyot's 33 year old record of 52.55 with a time of 51.64 Think he is done - Not even close!! He has already qualifed for 4 ZONE events to compete the first weekend of August representing Team Illinois at Pleasant Prairie, Rex plex, Wisconsin. Sunday -200 free and 50 back, Saturday -50 breast, Thursday -50 fly. What is Zones? Zones is a time standard set that any qualified swimmer competes under Team Illinois against, surrounding states Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio in a state to state competition.
