Mrs. Kirby’s Early US students went back to 1790 to a dinner party hosted by Thomas Jefferson to debate the issues of the day. Students we divided into Federalist and Jeffersonian-Republicans, they researched the issues from the time period and then had to negotiate with each other to come up with what was best for the new nation. They did all of this while eating!
Mrs. Kirby’s APUSH students have been discussing reformers of the 19th century. To learn more information about individual reformers students did a speed dating simulation as a reformer from the past. Each student was assigned a reformer, did research on their reformer and then talked with each other in their characters.

Sullivan High School, located in Section 16, is looking for an Agriculture teacher and advisor for the award-winning FFA program for the start of the 2020-2021 school year. The position includes a competitive salary with an extended contract of up to 60 days. Sullivan High School has one of the most highly respected ag programs in the state with a strong community/alumni support system. Facilities and equipment include a greenhouse, aquaculture system, mechanics shop including welding, electrical, and surveying equipment, and agriscience laboratory equipment. SHS Student Council hosted a State Drive-In for the Illinois Association of Student Councils at Building 1225. Windsor, Cumberland, Mattoon, Cisna and Sullivan Student Council members worked on leadership skills through a variety of activities.
Congrats to the Sectional qualifiers Chase McClure, Tori Turnbaugh, & Katherine Kite. Also to the Sullivan HS Cross Country runners who fought not only the 150 other runners in the Regional, but Mother Nature herself (rain, wind & cold). We are proud of you.

The Student Council hosted a food drive as part of their spirit week activities. Sophomores came in 4th with 7 items, Freshman came on 3rd with 24 items, Juniors came in 2nd with 54 items and the Seniors came in 1st with 79 items. The food items will be donated to the New Life Tabernacle Food Pantry.
